TANGO LEVEL GUIDE

Whether you're new to tango or have been learning for a while, joining the right class for your level will improve your experience and streamline your progress.

Everyone progresses at their own pace but here is a broad-brush guide to the levels at Tango Movement:

BEGINNERS (0 - 3 MONTHS)

You’re just starting out with tango or you’d like to go over the most basic principles.

IMPROVERS (4 - 12 MONTHS)

You’ve got a good grasp of the core principles in tango - you’re getting a feel for improvisation and can lead/follow ochos, the cross and some other basic figures. You’re ready for Improvers.

INTERMEDIATE (9 MONTHS - 2 YEARS +)

You’ve been dancing for quite a few months and tango is now in your blood! You’d like to refine your lead/become a responsive follower, learn new combinations and improve your musical interpretation.

ADVANCED (3 YEARS +)

You’re an experienced tango dancer but you’d like to continue to grow. You enjoy exploring new subtleties, energies, movements and ideas. And you’d like to do this with partners who share your level, and with teachers who have the commitment and know-how to help you.

If in any doubt about your level, please contact us and we’d be happy to help. We usually recommend you start at a lower level - that way, the only way is up!

Remember there is no need to rush through the levels. What is important is how well you dance, not what level you attend. And in our experience, students who spend the right amount of in each level tend to make smoother progress.
