Milonga is tango's playful cousin! It is based on tango technique, but the upbeat rhythm lends to a different style of steps and dynamic.
It is quite difficult to "bluff" without some structured learning and, consequently, you may have found yourself looking for a swift exit from the dancefloor whenever milonga music comes on! Those days are numbered!
Our course will be divided into 3 parts:
(1) Technique (approx 30 mins)
Individual exercises to warm-up the body & focus on the style, rhythm and attitude of milonga.
(2) Partner Work (approx 1.5 hours)
We will explore different step combinations for milonga music, focusing always on a clear lead, responsive following, musical interpretation and finding your own personality.
We will frequently rotate partners to ensure that you feel comfortable dancing with as as many people as possible.
(3) FREE Practica (approx 30 mins)
For no extra charge you can continue to dance a further 30 minutes - we'll be playing milonga, tango and vals!
Tango Terminology: Clearing up Confusions
The word milonga often causes confusion as it has two meanings: (1) the tango salon or club where we go to dance tango or (2) playful milonga music and the dance that accompanies it.
So you might hear someone say: "Are you going to a milonga tonight?" or alternatively "Would you like to dance a milonga?" But hopefully, next time, you'll no longer be confused!
