Kim first discovered Argentine tango when she entered a run down church hall in North London convinced by her sister to try a class. It was love at first sight.
She began taking a class a week, which gradually became five classes a week, until she was dancing every day. She handed in her notice at the City law firm where she was working and bought a plane ticket for Buenos Aires, where she has now lived for the past four years.
In Buenos Aires, she has dedicated herself fully to the tango, studying with the world's most renowned teachers, of all styles and teaching techniques. She has also trained intensively in ballet and modern jazz to complement her tango.
Amongst her most important influences, she would cite, Osvaldo Zotto and Lorena Ermocida, Gabriel Missé and Alejandra Martiñan, Damián Essell and Nancy Louzan, Martín Ojeda and Eliana Sanchez, Andrea Missé, Demián García, Melina Brufman, Monica Souto (ballet) and Manuel Vallejos (modern jazz).
She has performed in Buenos Aires shows, such as Chiquilín Tango and "Tango Real" in the Mansion Dandi Royal. Her performance in the City Theatre, Formosa, with David Benítez was broadcast live to several provinces of Argentina and to Paraguay.
She was a teacher at the Mansion Dandi's Tango Academy, La Confitería Ideal and the dance school El Esquinazo. She worked as teaching assistant in C.I.T.A 2005, Buenos Aires and the Florianopolis Tango Festival 2007, Brazil.
In her time in Buenos Aires, Kim also worked for Miguel Angel Zotto, as international tour manager for Tango Por Dos Company. |
